Product Description
Details
mAb specific to Rhizopus arrhizus, the principal global agent of the highly aggressive angio-invasive disease of humans known as mucormycosis. The fungus is responsible for ~90% of cases of rhino-orbital-cerebral mucormycosis, especially in those with poorly controlled diabetes mellitus and ketoacidosis. In addition, it is the leading cause (~70% of all cases) of pulmonary, gastrointestinal, cutaneous and sub-cutaneous disseminated infections in immunocompromised individuals, and those receiving high-dose intravenous corticosteroids. The fungus has recently emerged as the cause of super-infections in patients with severe influenza and with SARS-CoV-2, and is a major contributor to the more than 50,000 cases of COVID-19-associated mucormycosis (CAM) in India and elsewhere since the outbreak of the coronavirus pandemic in 2020.
