Fungal Enzymes

Fungi have a characteristic and highly successful mode of nutrition, requiring preformed organic compounds as energy sources, and usually as carbon nutrients for biosynthesis. Simple organic molecules like monosaccharides, amino acids and organic acids are taken up across the cell membrane, but more complex molecules must be degraded to monomers outside the cell by means of enzymes released through the walls or bound to the cell walls.
